A cosmopolitan city with a small town heart, Calgary is home to many of the largest companies in the country. The oil industry is the driving force behind its rapid growth, but it has a rich and vibrant cultural life as well.

Weather:

A very dry climate with little summer humidity makes Calgary a great place to live year-round. However, it does get quite cold at night, with lows in the minus-thirties Celsius (below -22 degF) on average from October to May.

Temperatures can also fluctuate widely, from sunny and warm to chilly and rainy. Winters are especially harsh, with temperatures below -20 degC on average in January and December.

It’s a good idea to bring an umbrella or some warm clothing when you plan on visiting the mountains during the winter. Snowfall in the Rockies can be heavy, with some areas experiencing up to 20 inches of snow annually.

If you’re planning on going skiing, be sure to check the forecast before you go. There are several ski resorts in the area, including Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise.

The city also offers a wide range of outdoor activities, from cycling and running to horseback riding. If you’re a biker, there are plenty of trails in the surrounding hills and wooded areas that offer excellent views of the city.
